Tribhuvan University has five technical institutes, each led by a Dean. Among them, the Institute of Science and Technology (IOST) aims to enhance academic and research programs in basic sciences. The Central Department of Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT) is one of the 13 Central Departments under IOST, established in 2001 AD. Over the years, the department has produced thousands of skilled professionals who are contributing to various IT sectors, including software development, IT consultancy, healthcare, and research.
Amrit Campus offers multiple academic programs, including Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in fields such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, B.Sc. CSIT, Microbiology, and Environmental Science. However, there is an increasing demand for specialized IT education at the postgraduate level. The Master’s in Computer Science program at the Central Department of Computer Science currently has limited student intake and lacks the capacity to meet the country’s growing need for skilled IT professionals.
To address this gap, Amrit Campus aims to introduce an advanced MIT program with specializations in applied sciences such as Database Administration, Network Administration, Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, and Big Data. Establishing specialized research laboratories and expanding the program will enhance Nepal’s IT sector and provide career opportunities in both academia and industry.
